Like the rest of east and Horn of Africa, Somalia has been battered by relentless heavy rains that began in October, caused by the El Nino and Indian Ocean Dipole weather phenomena.

Heavy rains and flash floods across the country have affected 706,100 people, while 113,690 displaced from their homes.

The flooding has been described as the worst in decades and has displaced about 700,000 people, according to the United Nations.

The intense rains have unleashed widespread flooding across the country, triggering displacement and exacerbating an already existing humanitarian crisis caused by years of insurgency.

In Somalia many of our brothers and sisters need to be fed. According to the United Nations there are 5 million people in Somalia who do not have enough food to eat because of ongoing conflict and droughts which has led to crop failure and loss of livestock. This is resulting in severe ill-health and even death - with children at greatest risk.

However, we can make a difference.

Somalia Aid (Lido Foundation), a UK registered charity is working on the ground in the Puntland region of Somalia and is providing needy families with food parcels for as little as £30 - that’s just £1 a day.

We aim to provide the food parcels to those who are hungry. The parcels will contain rice, pasta, cooking oils and other essential items.
